Is It Really Worth It to Have a House and Car if I'm OTR for the Foreseeable Future?

A car at the terminal and a nice hotel room for 5 days a month with no utility bills and no house to clean would cost a whole lot less.

Live cheap and save money to buy a house, forget the rent.

 

Renting, not really, home its probably still worth it, but only because you are slowly building equity, credit and real estate tends to not decrease in value.

You will find if you own a house thay sits except 5 days a month, everything in it will actually go to crap sooner than you may expect, houses kinda need to be lived in, toilets unflushed for a month tend to create plumbing problems, unused heat and ac may end up with critters living in them. Critters generally will take over am unoccupied house thats got any food in it simply because its not lived in, so they arent scared away.

Plenty of pros and cons, id say personally i wouldnt like not having my own place, but i dont like fully living in the truck, doing a 34 in the truck gets me antsy and roadweary the second week

 

Yeah, live in your truck and save money. Take your Hometime in different locations around the country (Motels)

 

Right now the price of everything is going to climb. I’d stack as much cash as possible, then when prices drop buy.

 

Storage and motel. Don't even need a car. It's amazing how many errands can be run with a bobtail. Pretty much all of them. Maybe you have to go a little out of your way once in a while, but it's way cheaper than buying, plating and insuring a car. And most TAs and Petros will let a trailer sit in their lot for at least 24 hours before they even start thinking about asking questions.

 

Just have a bed in the storage bin..save money on motels

 

I lived in my truck for several years.
I built a shower in it and a chemical toilet.

if I had a couple days layover I’d get permission to leave the trailer at a truck stop and bobtail to the closest state park or private campground.

much more relaxing to to spend a couple days in a campground by a lake than at a truck stop parking lot.

If I was within 90 miles of family or friends and had a couple of days , I’d just go visit with them .

I bought a 600 SF shack on seven acres in the mountains , because I just wanted a place to call my own but didn’t stay there. Very often, Had to have a 4wd pickup to get in to it.

 

Can be had for 5 figures in some parts of the country. And you can usually sell for at least what you paid.

Another option is to buy a duplex, rent out half and call the other half home. That way the renter pays the mortgage.
