How to rent out a truck?

No help but curious. Why would you buy a truck to rent out to someone else? There's big companies that do that and probably make money in volume rental. With one truck, just why?

I’ve seen how my hired drivers treated my trucks.

i shudder to think of how they would treat a rental truck.
Buying a truck to rent to complete strangers a day at a time is a really bad idea unless you have previous experience with it and a dedicated customer that you trust to rent it,
Amd a solid business plan,
You’re planning on competing with the large companies like Ryder and dozens of other companies that provide rental trucks to fleets ?

who is going to maintain and repair your truck?



and if they, uh, when they wreck it , you’re gonna get sued by the ambulance chaser the other person hires,

oh and speaking of that, how much is the insurance on a truck that’s going to be rented to complete strangers?

and how did you find an insurance company that will write a policy for that?

Unless we have misunderstood your question and you are wanting to hire out your truck for daily “drayage” I think it’s called , and get paid to drive it yourself hauling someone else’s trailers ?

 

I wouldn't do it. It'd be a massive money pit IMO. It'll be beat into the ground in a year or less.

I'd consider putting a lift on it and use it to tow breakdowns in.

 

Also considering he's in Texas how long until somebody rents it out and drives it to Mexico never to return?

 

If you were close to one of the towns where they give the tx. state road tests, then if you had a short trailer to rent with the truck you may make money renting like that, but you would have to pay one of your own drivers to get the truck back incase the driver can't pass the road test with the tx. state driver insp. the 1st time?
