You can return home, but you can't take the truck with you.
Whole new ball game with Elogs.
Some drivers are experts with Elogs and plan so they never take a 34 hr. reset on the road.

in your first post you state...

So which is it? No company is going to refuse you to go home. Normally you'll leave your truck at a local yard. Close to your home. How you get home from there is up to you. Just like any other job. "Starbucks" isn't going to give you a car or pay for your Uber to get home. You have to make your own way from work to home and vice versa.

I suspect there are really only three ways a driver will get paid for a 34. First, it would be part of a union CBA and is mandated. Next, the company is making an exception for you. I had this happen to me a while before I retired. I ran out of hours while doing some work for the company while doing them a big favor getting some trailers moved. Next, you are broken down and down for long enough to get a 34 in. Outside of these situations, you are mostly on your own.

If we...heaven forbid but it has happened, had to reset on the road we would receive 2 days motel,42 bucks a day meal money and 8 hrs pay, approximately $250.

My company pays drivers $100 extra for 34 hour reset on the road. That have a guaranteed minimum pay. You have to run in the OTR fleet and the say home 3 out of 4 weekends. They don't usually get you home. So they will pay $100 extra for doing 34 reset on the road vs nothing if they actually get you home. They will run you to the 70 hour limit and are happy to pay you $100 extra for not getting home.

Their OTR fleet only goes about 700 miles out. So lots of drop and hooks and short runs. They now pay detention pay of $20 per hour after 1 hour even if customer does not pay them. If truck is in company shop for repairs they will now even pay your downtime waiting to get your trucked fixed. They push driver to keep us going. Usually they have next load or two already lined up. It can get old overtime but they will pay you every week

If you get home every 14 days you should not need to do a 34 hour reset anyway. It is all in how you manage your hours. If you can't properly manage your hours why should your company pay you for that?

I get 200 bucks for resetting on the road plus hotel if I so choose. I prefer staying in my clean truck but that's just me. I am a tanker driver.
