They might be hiring replacement drivers instead of expanding. Since they installed driver facing cameras, drivers are getting tired of getting caught taking a drink of water. One news story I read said they have zero extra time to even stop and pee if they want to earn productivity points so they can advance to a better paying position.

Yep, a few months ago I read the story about how the drivers hate the new cameras. Suppose to be a safety thing, but they're using it to try to boost productivity. Supposedly they're set up to track drivers movement in the cab and certain actions like taking a drink out of a water bottle or a lack of head movement triggers it to record.

Unless something new is happening, Amazon has been following the FedEx Ground contractor model. None of those jobs are working directly for Amazon, it’s all run by smaller businesses with varying pay rates and benefits. If you’re dead set on delivering small packages, go with UPS and get paid a worthwhile amount for it.
