Found another one! Flying J in Lebec CA at exit 205. At southeastern end of truck stop, right next to motel 6 sign - jeep trail going off into the hills, nice walk, great views. 20210202_171333.jpg 20210202_162931.jpg

If you in ky going down Bert t combs mountain parkway there is a rest area at route 11 with a camp found near by and nothing else really but mountains and trees.

I use to live near there nice area but they do got bears and I think mount lions if I recall correctly but not enough to worry about I only seen a bear cub once in about 7 years i was down there Screenshot_20210202-214328_Maps.jpg

(If you do go there make sure you bring food and stuff it in the middle of nowhere can't think of any actual truck stop near by but I haven't been there since I was a kid)

LA, i10 exit 121. Not really trails, but there is a boat launch ramp a quarter mile behind the rest area.

NM, i10 westbound, near mm162. Rest area has some small trails in the large fenced in area.

AZ, i8 around mm150 westbound. Just a parking area, not a rest area. The fence behind it has a huge hole so you can easily explore the wilderness and climb up the side of the small mountain for good views.

AZ i40 mm235 rest areas. Rest areas are huge both in land space and parking. They are somewhat touristy because there are huge rock structures you can climb up.

AZ i10 westbound mm51 rest area. There is/was a large hole in the fence near the exit so you can venture away from the highway exploring the wilderness.

UT, rt 6 near Spanish Fork. The rest area has a dirt road leading off into the mountains. Haven't had a chance to explore it yet.

UT, i70 exit 86 rest area. Not really trails, but there's no fencing. There is an old road leading to a small abandoned cattle pen area but nothing stopping you from going further and climbing the mountain.

WY, rt 220, rest area at Independence Rock State Historic Site. Numerous trails/dirt roads and a huge 50ft tall mountain of a rock to climb up and walk around on.

CO, i76 exit 125. Rest area has a park accross the street from it. Also a small museum accross the main road from it (I haven't been to the museum yet).

CO, i70 exit 90. The rest area IS a park. Large pond for fishing with a trail around it.

TX rt 82 near Silver Falls, accessible from both east and west. Rest area has some trails going down to and along the river behind it. It only has a few very narrow truck spots but not a busy place. Bit of a walk to the bathrooms from the truck parking area but if walking was an issue you wouldn't be reading this topic.

TX i75 southbound right inside the TX/OK boarder. Rest area has access to a road that goes south along the highway. Just north of the rest area the road loops under the highway at a large river and ends at a gravel/sand company.

ND, i94 exit 32. Wow, just, wow. Rest area at a national park. The Theodore Rosevelt National Park covers 110 square miles of rough terrain and has around 100 miles of trails.

Think this is my 5th post in this topic

OR, i84 exit 335 rest area. 4x4 trail up the road to the north of the rest area. Small trail (old road) to the south of the rest area.

LA, i49 mm33 rest area. Large area to walk around in, some small trails, and a large pond.

Texas, i40 mm129 eastbound rest area, small trail.

Texas, i35 exit 18 rest area, dirt road behind it maybe half a mile long going into the desert.

Montana, i90 mm143 westbound. Some small trails along the river behind the rest area.

SD, i90 mm98 rest areas have a maintenance road behind them.

SD, i90, mm264 rest area. Trail to overlook

IL, i74 westbound, mm204 rest area. Large pond to walk around and a small trail near the entrance that leads to a very old and tiny cemetery.

Found another one. Sadly not much time to explore right now.

UT, i70 Westbound, mm190. A few trails up onto the tall hills and no fences so you can explore the vast open desert.
