If anyone has taken the endorsements lately in TX...
Do any one know of any offices where I can just show up and take the hazmat without getting put on a 3 month out appointment time?
I don't care how far I have to drive, I just don't want to worry about trying to keep an August appointment. Seems unreasonable to me.

6-weeks is fingerprints and passports/TWIC, which is also insane, imo
Just trying to avoid the 3-month adventure. Something straightforward that takes under half an hour shouldn't have to be scheduled out an entire business quarter.

Last time I renewed my hazmat in Austin I had to renew my whole license. PITA
Since they closed tge CDL office on denson drive all the cdl stuff had go thru the itty bitty office on north Lamar. Total cluster and that was before the virus
all I can say is good luck.Trucker61016 and TravR1 Thank this. -
I used to live off N Lamar and 51st Street. I know that location you are referring too.
Just asked here, I am willing to drive literally anywhere in the state if it means I don't have to wait.
It's like 6 weeks just to start the passport process. Not sure what world I am living in right now. I cant just go wait in line to turn in my signed paper and my mugshot. I must wait, and I have to make sure I am home during that time. Get stuck on the road somewhere? Tough luck for me.Last edited: May 24, 2021

I'm sure you have looked here -
Tx DPS - Driver License office locations
Problem with Texas is there are too dang many people. The whole state is clustered. One of the reasons I left.tscottme Thanks this. -

I heard a rumor that one of the "Mega" DPS centers in Houston will allow walk-ins, and they will squeeze you in whenever or when there is a no show. Can anyone confirm or deny? I am willing to bet there are a lot of no-shows since the wait is around 3 months or so. -
And just a note for new people:
Do everything you can to get it all done at once. It's a huge PITA trying to go back after the fact. It's even harder now post-COVID than it was before. Especially if you want to go OTR.
When I went in to begin with, the lady told me I couldn't do everything all at once. Then after that I learned that wasn't true. Don't let them talk you out of it. Once you get in to see someone, do everything you can to get it all done. Be prepared to take all endorsement exams.
There's a wait just to do your fingerprints. So plan that out so it's done if you can. -
