Anyone familiar with the I-94/196 split area in Michigan?

I have to come back from Grand Rapids to Chicago tomorrow and was hoping someone could give me some knowledge.

I know the ramp from Southbound 196 to West bound 94 is closed for rebuilding, but their detour is kind of crappy. While I did not see it as a posted detour I also did not see any signs saying it couldn't be done... was considering exiting 196 at exit 1 and taking Red Arrow Hwy West to North Benton Center Road, South on that until it ends at US 31 then running that back to 94 over by where the Pilot is.

Didn't see anything about restricted roads in my atlas but that doesn't always mean the locals haven't posted it as no trucks.

I will be in a day cab, 45 foot bulk trailer, empty, approx weight 26,500 pounds.

You might not even have to worry about taking that detour, someone was just telling me today they opened that ramp back up. I haven't been by there since earlier this week though so I could very well be wrong.

Either way that's not a bad detour but watch your signs. Michigan is good about labeling their truck routes and where not to go with your truck.

You were told correctly, the ramp is open again for now. I assume they will close it again when they are close to finishing the actual road but no idea when that will be.
