Just wondering if I should separate myself from the newbies with no background. I'm concerned the market might get flooded with non CDL/low experience people. Just thinking out loud.

That I can't tell you. I'm somewhat worried about the market for the next few months myself.

My insurance lady hinted my insurance may be higher hauling cars than a dry van !!! That could hurt. It seems running under my own authority will incur roughly the same fixed costs as running a dry van. The only expense I see being less is the trailer. A Kaufmann mini 5 is $20,000 new.

No surprise there. Cars have a much higher chance of a claim than general freight.

You mentioned in an earlier reply that hot shots didn't have the overhead ?? When I look at the fixed costs, it doesn't seem to be a lot of difference running Hot shot vs dry van. Heck, the dually's are as much as a semi, trailers may be a little less ,insurance close to the same ???

still seems to be a decent amount of freight around ... at decent rates.

The point I was making is that it doesn't matter if you pull hot shot or van both are flooded with new/no experience folks...

You aren't going to separate yourself from anyone...

    Tuckster Thanks this.

Got it .... I guess my point was "flooded" usually means low rates and little freight. That could change but for now it seems to be holding fairly well ... which is a good thing.

    JonJon78 Thanks this.

This thread has been been helpful to read.
I am interested in leasing out my 2014 freightliner columbia semi truck. I have my own authority but can no longer drive the truck. How can I pay a driver, pay the truck note, pay myself and other necessary expenses?
