Wow! They taught the truck to roll over. I wonder if it will fetch and play dead too?

Yeah, the road was closed for quite a while. My wife called to warn me, but thankfully I had a load to Santa Fe. That canyon is a terrible place to have to shut down the interstate. The detour adds about 100 miles and 2 hours.

As a relative newbie to Colorado, ( 3.5 years) I had never been through the canyon, but on a recent trip to Rifle, I can say it's one of the most stunning drives. It follows the Colorado River, and how they put an interstate through there in the 1st place, is nothing short of an engineering marvel. They are constantly working on the stretch, and there's really no other way around the canyon. I-70 is it, so this was a major problem for many, especially this weekend.. There are a couple tunnels, and tight turns, and reduced speed limits all the time. Classic screwup here, and westbound, which I believe they were going, is elevated above the eastbound side, so it was a ride they won't forget anytime soon. Nice goin', yutz.

I agree. A couple years ago I watched a show, I think it may have been on Modern Marvels on the History channel, that show the construction of the highway through Glenwood Canyon. They had to pre-fab the parts of the roadway that are supported over the ground and bring them in and crane them into position. There were big boulders and such and trees that were marked that they were not allowed to disturb in any way.
While it is impressive in both directions, you can really appreciate the engineering efforts when running the eastbound side through there.

Back in 05, watched a truck in the left lane crawl up the median barrier and roll onto a car it was passing. Occupants were killed immediately.
