considering the super truckers I ran into today in Knoxville. Autoshifts are not the issue. Four in the hammer lane. Megas clogging the center lane. Long nose Tarp Monkey tailgating with no where to go.

Exactly. Literally anyone can learn how to drive a manual. People will still be selfish and inattentive on the road, and hoods will still get ran over at truck stops whether you got three pedals in the truck, or two.

I saw it twice in BFE California. First one was on I-10 @10 mi west of Blythe. Traffic was light at night and he did it without any problems, Except being called a ####### by everyone on the radio. Next time was in the daytime just east of that Oasis store at the 107 exit on I-40. He got halfway across and a DOT cop met him in the middle. Karma.

Manual transmissions don’t do much to thin the herd. When I was a driver at the flatbed company I worked at he spec’d all the trucks with 15 speeds. It was nice having the deep reduction to get going when it was soft, but man that transmission sucked at 105k in the mountains. One of our drivers asked him why he still got the 15 and he said “when you get an idiot that can’t drive he’s not going to tear up the deep reduction, so you’re basically rebuilding a 10 speed”.

And I don’t get why you would push the clutch in during a panic stop, you still could’ve skipped gears and downshifted to let the engine brake help slow you down.

    15 is just a glorified 10.

So did you go around him or get behind him? You seem a bit confusing on that point.

Did you safely get around him, then slow way down to get behind him because you were in the hammer lane... even though you were safely past him and could have kept going in front of him in the right lane?
That makes no sense to me.

You don't need to push the clutch in to get it out of gear, if you pushed it far enough your clutch brake is toast now.

I thought there was no way in hell he was going to go. I didn't expect anyone was that stupid. I drive a red day cab and a stainless steel tanker, no way he didn't see that.
