Getting a ticket for an accident that was someone else’s fault is the reason I bought the dash cam.

    don’t be like me .
Do not wait until something happens to get motivated to buy a dash cam.

A dash cam is around $100

I never had to experience it myself, thankfully. What pushed me over the edge was a guy driving a purple pickup. People pulled up next to him talking #### about it, and then got in front of him and brake-checked him. Well, they collided and the driver in front was killed. Dash cam is what saved the guy in the purple truck.

Were I still driving today I would NEVER leave without 2 Go Pro cameras. One looking forward and another looking down the right side. I have seen several videos where the driver would have been charged had they not had video.

One of the greatest skills an experienced driver brings is the ability to anticipate or recognize situations before they become something you have no control over.
The loss of less than 1 minute, to brake or just slow down, to make sure you're not involved in someone else's mistake is what it takes to not become a statistic.

Simply because someone out there, deep in their soul, ignorant of basic driving skills, will look at the situation and say "challenge accepted. Hold my beer "

    That's the worst you saw?

The other day I'm in the bypass lane of a chicken coup where the signs say "maintain 40 in the bypass lane." So I am. Last second this moron pulls out from a parking spot right in front of me. I end up skidding half sideways into the grass to avoid the collision. I manage to get back onto the road and as I'm accelerating away and trying to half way put stuff back that flew around the cab in the sudden braking event I hear someone on the CB #####ing at me for going so slow.

You can't make this stuff up.

Hmmm, that’s not what I’ve been led to believe. I was told the “greatest” skill an OTR driver can have is the ability to grab a Hot Link off the roller grill at the truck stop without burning yourself.

Of course, my nourishment of choice isn’t on the roller grill so I can’t say one way or the other if that’s true or not.

I've been led to believe that the older they are the less heat they'll retain so if your dietary needs change, and I'm assuming it would be after nightfall, just know those skills won't go unnoticed either.

This is 100% correct, after a while you learn to anticipate what will happen and to err on the side of caution, can't count how many times this has saved my life.

I once saw a motorcyclist coming up to a side street roll to a stop sign, immediately I could see that he was barely standing and changed lanes just in case. He ended up jumping in front of the car that had been behind me and got hit but not very hard since the speed limit was 35, if it had been me I would've run him over easily.

Another time I'm in Wyoming in the winter time on a lease hauling crude oil when I see one of my coworkers coming from the a side road up to a stop sign, I say to myself he's going a bit fast lets slow down a bit just in case. 4 seconds later I'm like " yeah, he ain't going to be able to brake in time with how icy it is" so I just stop and shut off my headlights to let him know I'm stopping, he ran that stop sign and barely made the turn without ending up in the ditch and rolling over. After that we both started blinking our lights like it was a celebration, we're both alive and that's all that matters.
