I’ve put 310k (550k total miles) on my truck and I’ve had to do an exhaust manifold, a water pump, two NOx sensors, and a dpf. So I’d say when factor that in plus the money saved by extending drain intervals and the money saved on fuel I’m way ahead of an old engine at this point.

Friend of mine had an 07 Cummins in a International. It was a nice Truck. Kept having to clean the sensors. The doser would run or leak? All the time. Kept smelling diesel. had to take it to the dealer to make it regen, a couple times finally got the doser fixed. Then exhaust sensors would always need cleaning, about once a week. We finally figured out it was the egr cooler. Replaced it, no more problems. He messed around with it for a couple months-running the whole time. It was a common problem on those. Should have been obvious, but neither of Us knew anything about such things. By the time he got through, he was an expert. Lol.

I have a friend that drives with cargo that the cargo owner specifies that the engine is not to be turned off until the very expensive and proprietary oversize cargo is delivered.
Cant run oversize at night so they rack up a lot of idle time.

they idle every night, four days a week.
They buy a new truck just before
The warranty runs out , but they’ve never had any issues with emission stuff,
But they do a forced regen EVERY morning before they start driving.

would forcing a regen every day prevent all the emission problems ?

they also do oil changes every 10k when the manufacturer says 40-50k is acceptable .

Copy that. We want to think we know enough to figure it out without spending the extra money to have it looked at but there just stuff you can't see without a computer.

Huh, that's interesting stuff. A regen every morning, seems like that would waste a lot of fuel but I guess in the grand scheme of things it's really not that much. And I've also heard of drivers changing their oil every month whether it needs it or not. They say you'll never have to do a rebuild if you change that often. Of course, you're probably paying for the rebuild through the barrels of oil you're using every year lol.

Haha, yeah my wife say's that lol. Maybe I am. There are always two sides to a story, both can be right at any given time given the right circumstances. I take both sides into consideration. There are many variables to every circumstance and if anyone thinks they have it all figured out well that's a sure sign that they do not. I will take what you said into consideration also. I don't want to be one of these guys that can't take any advice because they think they know it all.
