I remember in 2012 or 13 everyone was going to a heavy equipment trucking course, I didn't know they courses were still around. are these still worth taking? or is just straight AZ better? I don't want to name any schools or anything but are there any schools in Ontario that should be avoided or somewhere to find out any inside info? I really don't want to go somewhere and get screwed

the cheapest I've been quoted was $7500 and they wanted to teach me how to drive on an automatic and with the new regulation that's being put into effect in July on the 17th i believe that limits you to only driving automatic vehicles

"OTA was formally notified by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) today that effective May 17, 2021, individuals completing the Class A road test in a vehicle with an automatic transmission, including automated-manual transmissions, will be restricted from operating a Class A vehicle with a manual transmission."

IMO you'd be nuts to limit yourself to auto only.

otds hamilton is good (took my courses with them in Nov last year), at least for getting your license, they have two instructors were working at the test centre across the street where u will take ur road test (its a big help when u go have ur road test) and seems no one is saying anything bad about them after I've been interviewed many fleets.

Thank you, I am just worried about wasting my time at a bad school and then being unhireable

when i went to crossroads in barrie in 2008 they were a good school and companies like schneider hire students from there. one thing i would recommend if you plan on driving for the megas carrier’s i would call them and find out which schools they hire from . i found out the hard way you can’t just go to any school to get your license and expect to be hired . after getting my license i had to pay another $3500 for a refresher course or no one would hire me

I recommend doing this also, the only school in Calgary all companies I've worked for/contracted for will hire from; is CCA.

I am from Ontario and when i called Schneider's and a couple of the other large carriers they said they had no banned or blacklisted schools.. I was trying to get them to tell me what schools they wanted people to go to but they wouldn't. I am planning on going to crossroads in august so i hope they are still well respected.
