Amazon likes that selling point of an 'open door policy' regarding pay negotiations, meaning each worker is welcome to come talk to the manager on a 1 on 1 basis and talk about their pay. Why do they like it? Because they know word spreads faster than fire. So if a percentage of workers go to management and get shot down for a raise, the rest won't even bother to go ask for it.

It's not a institution or corporate policy.
We are a closed shop state.
Wanna work here you must join.
If enough do it's back to the table or if what was presented is a final it's off to the picket line.
It's a democracy.
We are a big company run by executive officers, a board of directors and ultimately shareholders.
All the salaries are public. We want and they don't want to give. They do not collaborate, they tell you what they are willing to do.
20 executives take a week off and the company chugs on. 20 drivers are off and we'd be in rough shape. It's only adversarial around the bargaining table.
Otherwise we all work together to reach the same goal and everybody wins.
Our products are chilled to liquid form and cannot exceed 23.5 psiLast edited: Jun 9, 2021

I've been driving for 30 years, the last 11 as a teamster. I made low 60's as a non-union local driver, when I joined a union shop I made 30k more and continue to do so, I hope the pension is there for me when I retire, if not I've also made other investments, I'm relying solely on it. If someone chooses to work locally for less money and substandard benefits because they object to being in a Union that is certainly their right to do so, plenty of non-union work out there.

I will say that I wasn't a strong union person but stayed in for 32 years because it was a good job. But I became a stronger member eight years ago when my wife got sick with cancer and found out how good our health insurance and benefits are it changed my whole attitude and also ask me in 680 hours how I feel when I am retired with a real good retirement at 61 years old. Just my two cents from coming from a non union family and than ending up where I am today. I use to drive over the road for low pay and didn't think there was any better but I found out.
