I've heard of "Truckers Knee" but I have pain in just one of my quads - Is this normal in trucking?

I've only been driving a few years but I'm 61 and had back problems on and off for many years. For some people like me, sciatica flares up every few years then usually goes away after a while. If this lasted months or years, then yes I would consider surgery. My problem is that I know a few people who had surgery and wound up worse, or it was no help. I don't want to wind up worse than I am, so things will need to get really bad before I go for surgery.

The trick to OTC pain meds is to mix them up and not use the same type for more than a few days before switching. I usually go between ibuprofen and Tylenol every other week when I need them. Or if the pain isn't really bad I won't take anything at all, maybe a beer or two. Yes, long term use of these drugs can do damage to some people. So far, I'm in the clear.

I’m kinda strange. I don’t wear shoes while driving. I periodically curl my left leg and foot under my rump and sit on it for a while until it hurts. Then the left leg goes back down into normal position. I used to get swelling in my left foot before I did this during long drives. Now that swelling doesn’t happen anymore.

It sucks when you're trying to take a picture of your truck and some van hauler photo bombs you.

On the topic at hand, is it possible it could be something as simple as a pinched nerve? I tell my wife I'm a doctor, but I'm actually a truck driver. (kind of)

Yeah I could see it being a pinched nerve too. But the only thing is like I said, I had a few months off from work this year due to surgery (unrelated to my left leg quad pain). That was a few months of rest for me. I would think a pinched nerve would heal itself up over a few month resting period where my most strenuous activity were leisurely walks? During the few months I was off the "pins and needles" type of feeling wasn't as common but it still stayed feeling numb the whole time.

I also forgot to mention warm showers help it immensely, although that still doesn't help narrow down to what's causing it in the first place.

Those test strips can be a pain. I get my testing supplies from the VA. I wear a constant glucose monitor. I'm not a Physician, but I doubt diabetes affects blood pressure. Just remember though what I said. Wait two hours after dinner and then check. I would also add that IF your blood sugar is much above 110 to keep a testing log and show this to your Physician. Remember to make note of meals in the log.
