Can truckers that came out of trucking school with no experience can start doing regional trucking?

I did. I got my CDL a year ago. I was previous a John Deere salesman & knew a lot of farmers with trucks. One of my previous customers was advertising for drivers to haul potatoes regionally. I called the owner & he told me send in an application & since they knew me he said they'd give me a shot. I should also mention that I was raised on a farm & have driven trucks since I was 12...so I did have that experience also. When I got the job driving a 99 378 Pete with a 53' potato trailer they told me that they were changing their operation & they could only promise me a job for 6 months or so. I drove seven months total hauling potatoes from central Oregon to Portland.

When that job ended I applied for a regional job that required two years experience. I applied anyway & the owner called me for an interview. The interview went well & he offered me a job on the spot & I took it. Now I'm driving OR, WA, & ID pulling a 53' refer & driving a 2021 Cascadia. I've been with this company for four months now & really enjoy the job. I have weekends off & even get to spend a few nights home during the week. I should add that I'm 65 years old in great health with a perfect driving record. I believe my maturity & good driving record helped too.

Anything is possible but you got to make the attempt.

You can find companies that will take new CDLs right out of school for local, regional, or otr. It's just a matter of what you want and that of which the company offers. Plenty of jobs for new guys.

At my first job I was home every night. My present job I average 2 nights home during the week plus weekends. Today for example, I unloaded & loaded close to home so I only worked six hours total.

My first job was circling the lakes with mostly steel sometimes lumber or odd crap on a flatbed.

Bring a heavy trailer destined for the prairies to their yard in Winnipeg switch to a lighter loaded one going stateside deliver and reload somewhere in the states for somewhere close to home. Deliver that go home a few days lather rinse repeat.
