Just curious but how often do you guys clean your fittings? And what do you use to get the job done?

Clean them after every use. Let the guys at tank washes clean your fittings. In a pinch, I would spray them with high pressure at the terminal if there wasn't something really nasty on them.

Every time I use them. When you drop the trailer at the tankwash, walk over to the bay and have them power wash that sucker. Once in a while I'll spread them all on the catwalk and spray some generic cleaner all over. Then wipe them dry and put them away. A bit like doing the dishes.

What cleaner do you use? I know a couple guys use brake or carb cleaner after each use

Brake cleaner sounds like a good idea. I was using housecleaning stuff... but I like the brake cleaner idea better.

We always washed the fittings and pump together. I had all S/S and I carried it in a toolbox lined with a few rags, cleaned it all at the wash rack and hauled them home in my car in case dispatch stole my truck overnight. Our Macks had an extra battery box for fittings that could be locked but most of the rest had mild steel fittings so I guarded mine.

That wash rack had a hose tub with a caustic detergent so I had to be on the lookout for guys who came from other tank outfits with some aluminum fittings. Also had solvent for dry bulk pipes so one could scrub aluminum without turning it black and ugly...
