Couldn’t have been suicide as the drivers would had to have closed the dome lid to keep from spilling, most gas haulers are pretty full, and they said it had been off loading strange/slow for a couple days. Also 90% of the gas tankers Ive ever seen only have 10” dome holes compared to the 20” holes on most other tankers and it’d be hard to get a full grown body through a 10” opening.

Guy was employed at a BP in Nashville.
    My bet is this
A.)Tanker driver thst relievered at some point got mad and offed the dude then dropped his body in the tank. Thinkin it would be a while before anyone found him.
B.)Tanker was parked for the weekend in a shady spot. Some local scum bags killed poor dude and thought he’d never be found

This sounds like a possibility, due to the fact he worked at a gas station... My guess is the detectives from Nashville will definitely be interviewing all tanker drivers that have made drops at the location this guy worked at...

Then some other driver came along and said "oh look, a truck", then drove off with it and started making deliveries?
Nah. My first guess has to be foul play.

    In Southern Illinois??
(Closest major city to Nashville is Mount Vernon)
Maybe it was a robbery gone wrong.

It still took extra work to remove the retaining ring around the larger opening, the flip lid on that style of trailer is too small for an intact body so it would need to be removed to fit a body. Kinda hard to visually check a compartment and not see something the size of a body. If you are doing 5 or 6 gas stations a shift, and one hole is draining very slowly; you climb up and flip the lid and look for the reason after a station or two, not days.
