    Hi all!

This is my first post here, though I’ve been doing a lot of reading on here. Sorry for the long post!!

My fiancé purchased a used Freightliner DD15 back in February. We’ve been having issues after issue, out of 4 months we’ve been in the shop I think 3. We’ve had major work, thankfully most of it cover by warranty. We’ve had the cylinders replaced, head gasket, one box, filters, you name it. Some of these components replaced more than once. We’ve had Detroit, Freightliner Corp. involved in this ordeal.

After 3 weeks of the truck running fine, we are back in the shop, same issue lights go on and the truck derates to 5mph. We are at a loss here as we’ve spent more time in the shop than running the truck.

Trying to see if anyone could offer some clues as to what could be wrong. We’ve even considered getting rid of the truck.
Below are the codes the shop informed us we are getting now:

I'm guessing injector 6 is bad. What do they want to do with it?

It looks like they want to replace the injector, but this will be about the 4th or 5th time the injector gets replaced in less than 5 months!!! So that tells me this truck has an issue that no one has really been able to get to the bottom of it.

    Same injector?

Have they tested the injectors with a thermal scanner while the engine is running?

Have they visibly inspected all wiring harnesses and connections?

Have you used different shops, or do you keep taking it back to the same one?

    shanman Thanks this.

They haven’t done the thermal scanner this time around, as the truck keeps shutting off, but will ask if they can do that. I’m assuming they have check wires, etc, but one issue I’m noticing with a lot of these shops is they just go by the codes the truck is giving, but they don’t make an effort to get to the root cause. The only one that have done that so far was in Tolleson. But when a truck keeps on breaking down with same issue it tells me they really haven’t found what’s truly causing it.

We’ve used a different shop every time. The truck gets fixed, we run and it breaks down, sometimes the truck will run 3 weeks once it has been fixed, a few days and in one instance it broke down within two hours of leaving the shop!. We’ve been to shops on WV, Flagstaff and Tolleson, AZ, New Mexico, Florida. We spent one month at the Tolleson location while they tried to figure out the issue, and then replaced the head gasket.

    It really is very frustrating.

    Thanks!

Play musical injectors. See if the computer follows the code or the actual injector.

no ones trading in a 2017 truck because it is running too good…..

They should have replaced all the injectors the first time around.

Second is never buy a truck without doing your due diligence, OA, dyno/blowby, ECM dump, dealer vin check and so on.

Your frustration is understandable. Most of the so called technicians at dealers are just parts changers. They only know to do what the computer tells them to.

Sounds to me like its either a wiring problem, or something mechanical inside the engine. You need a real mechanic to start taking it apart and hunt down the problem.
