The Nevada Highway Patrol is investing a fatal crash Wednesday night near the Arizona border.

At approximately 7:55p, a commercial dump truck, hauling asphalt, was headed southbound on I-11 approaching a roundabout near mile marker 2.

According to witnesses, it was traveling at a high rate of speed, when it struck the roundabout and veered off a 300-foot embankment, at which point the truck caught fire.

    The fire is currently contained.

The driver has been pronounced deceased.

What roundabout? I'm guessing the reporter doesn't know a cloverleaf is not a roundabout.

I was on that job Wednesday night. It’s a case of inexperience and crappy equipment. The boy didn’t know how to come down that hill loaded and what to do if his brakes faded too much. We can all sit here and say what we all would’ve done but it wasn’t us taking that ride he did. We can all learn from ones mistake. Know your equipment. Don’t take your knowledge for granted.

My guess is that the driver had taken the off ramp and couldn't stop for the roundabout off the exit.

I did not know there was an off-highway roundabout there. Thank you for taking the time to post this.

Some roundabouts aren't well-advertised and the advised speed is 20 mph. I've been caught off guard once or twice.

    Bud A. Thanks this.
