You're going to have to be more persistent in your job search and you can't always drive a tractor trailer to any ole Burger King to get yourself a cheeseburger.

The Master Chief and his lovely wife and I had a nice quiet dinner. We spoke about some things affecting Veterans but mostly just enjoyed each other's company. Later I showed him this thread on my iPad and your comment. He did not say you were full of it. But he said he would NEVER allow this to happen on "HIS" ship. The Skipper would get messages from Millington about it as would his ISIC. On the strike group, his ship is a part of that is not happening. He also told me his actual date of retirement is coming up soon. The Navy is about to lose a really good Master Chief too!

If I had to do it all over again I'd start at UPS working the docks right out of high school. Get that CDL and climb the ladder to them feeder positions. Although I don't mind the path I chose in trucking as I've gained a ton of experience and have made a good living at a rather young age.
Started with a mega running OTR for a year making peanuts but man was it fun and did I get to see some country. Then went to FedEx ground for a bit over a year running teams. Money was getting better, but of course I was always working. Then got a small mom and pop local gig so I could find me a tanker gig got into that and I was hooked. We ran oils and chemicals local and regional so got alot of different experience. Then went into fuel hauling and this is when the big bucks finally started coming in, and I was the youngest they had ever hired at that location at 25. Spent a good couple years there before the company went down hill and now i run cryogenics and compressed gasses which I've grown to love even more then fuel. Going on three kids, married and a house. Oh and my wife and I have been together since I started driving so shes been through it all, from being gone for weeks at a time to home every night and a steady schedule.

What I posted about E-3's isn't allowed today, but was allowed when I was in. Regulations change with the times.

That's how I had somewhat envisioned my trucking career before getting my CDL:

    1) Start with a mega and get some experience (but no way I'm staying one year here)
    2) Transition into more specialized roles (tanker or doubles is what I have in mind)
    3) Get good at it and find a local gig

I'm in step #1 right now.

If you wanted local, you should have started local. Just about every employer cannot find anyone who wants to work and they’re begging for help. If you can operate a rig, have a clean record and can pass a drug test, you can get the job you want.
