My wife and I are looking at team driving. We would like to find a company to eventually retire from. We’re looking for company and career path suggestions.
LTL is the goal but we are open to tankers as well. Whatever pays the highest.
Been trying to find information on expediting in a stright truck but pay info is scarce.
We don’t want to unload so food service is out.
Me;
Drove Doubles doing dirt hauling for about a year-year and a half then switched to fuel delivery for about eight years. This was in the SF Bay Area. No OTR but did runs from SJ to Fresno Airport and back with Jet-A, similar to line haul, go-drop-come back.
Got side swiped in 2012 and hurt my back. Did office work as soon as I could work again but was laid off 04/03/2020 due to covid.
No driving since April of 2012
Wife;
Worked as a phlebotomist for the red cross and drove their bus. Then worked for SLC Airport driving a full size passenger bus.
No driving since 2018
We looked into a refresher course but it’s about $900 each for one week and we just can’t swing it.
Our location is Tooele UT
2 Cats no kids.
If the wife likes to drive we would likely give up the house we are renting and go OTR full time.
Goal is to work hard for 5-10 years then see. I’m 45 she is 40
We want to start mid to late July.
I’m an open book so if you need more information just ask.
Hoping for suggestions on where to start.
Thanks

The highest paying team operation I know of are cryogenic team drivers. Both drivers can make $115k and up for each driver. At a company like Air Products or Praxair if you get on as a Hydrogen team.
Some hazmat waste or companies that haul Government hazmat loads pay teams pretty good also.
And lastly some of the LTL carriers pay teams well. Can't say all of them do. Because even in LTL there are some low paying worthless companies.scott180 and slow.rider Thank this. -
YRC/Yellow is growing fast and need drivers; that's why they started their own school.
This truck looks like a single drive axle Schneider truck pulling YRC/Yellow doubles trailers. Maybe Schneider is pulling their trailers until they hire enough drivers for their own trucks.

If you have any interest in being an O/O I would seriously consider buying a truck and leasing to Landstar. From what I've heard they have some fantastic contracts for team drivers that are dedicated lanes and pay very well. Might be something to look into. Good luck.

Do you happen to know if they hire newer drivers? -
Will they hire without recent experience? -
How flexible are the companies being about recent experience?
Are the still desperate enough to train? -
