Desperate to deliver their goods, New York Food suppliers are hiring mercenary truckers from Alabama — and they’re putting them up in hotels in the Bronx because they can’t find local drivers.

"I’ve never seen drivers get paid what they are paid today," Jennings added. "They are getting well into the six figures and they can easily make $3,000 a week. A [commercial driver’s license] is like a golden ticket right now."

This article is a testimony to the power your cdl has right now. You've seen the massive sign on bonuses companies are throwing around. Our company now pays an additional $5 per hour for all weekend work. The driver shortage is now real. If you are not making at least 80k per year you need to look elsewhere. Somebody will pay you that and more to get drivers.

smoke and mirrors to suck employees in. Our company needed city P&D drivers in a pinch,,brought some down from the frozen tundra...no extra compensation other than hotel expenses. Excellent workers,,,they put many of our city drivers to shame as far as how much freight they could pedal during a shift.
They all went back home,,none would stay, not even in some of our smaller cities of less than 10k people

It still ain't going to be that many people making 80k. It's only so many runs to go around. I still say its between 60 and 70k on average that drivers will make. Many of the offers are throwing sweet sign on bonuses to make it look like something.

Those are food service jobs which pay way above what OTR drivers make.
The company is paying big money to get drivers to come to the Bronx and work. This is a $1 billion dollar Bronx based food supplier.
