Dude, things in the dinosaur age were different, it's not the same anymore. Like I said, you obviously have no idea how things work nowadays at the big boys places, especially Amazon.
Go get some fresh experience, calm down your Boomer ego and come back for a conversation

Teach me how to preplan in the situation I described above. No eta for unloading and no place to park your truck, except standing in the mile long group of trucks on the side of a public road. Oh, add ELD to that also

it still comes down to what i said, and will stand by, no company is responsible to provide the truckers with parking.

poor planning on one's part is not a problem on my part.

You don't understand. It's not possible to preplan when shipper/receiver failed to preplan the amount of work they will be doing, so their whole infrastructure (parking, amount of workers, bathrooms, )just collapses with the amount of trucks they have to handle at the same time.
As a trucker, you simply can not preplan, because you don't know if you will be spending there 4 hours, or 24 hours.

No, I AM a driver. What I meant to say is that people like ourselves get treated with very little respect
but sometimes the system needs fixing. It's true, everyone has to be responsible for their own
planning like you said, but I'm sure you would agree there also has to be a better way.

in the "general, basic" terms, truckers haven't been respected for decades. the "me first" attitude came into play way back when, when a truck would be broken down on the side of the road, and (back then) newbies just whizzed on by.when i first started other drivers would pull over and lend a helping hand.......

if we do not respect one another, what example does that show the general public?

as a result, without us "policing" ourselves, the feds stepped up the rules, regulations. then add into the foray citizens from MADD, PATT, and others, and thier lobbying the state houses and D.C., and you have a perfect storm of hatred towards truckers.

to think that all warehouses should "cater" to the trucker(s) other than thier own employed drivers, is ridiculous.

case in point, i had to pick up a couple of our trailers at the UPS DC center in Chelmsford MA.

when i found the trialers, EACH trailer had the trash in them, from the shrink wrap, pallets, papers, from the loads they received.

my feelings, "it's your load, your product, your trash".

so you wanna know what i did..??

i drove around thier yard, backed up to a back corner, in the back, and happily dumped THEIR trash right there.

i even swept out the trailers of all the dirt, dust balls.

    BOTH TIMES.

The municipalities that only saw dollar signs and have a huge cluster**** daily anywhere near the Amazon DC will be case studies for planners in the future of exactly what not to do. You don't see this at Walmart DCs or Target DCs, etc. That's because those places aren't run by people who think like Bezos, who prides himself on passing the true cost of his commerce off onto the commons. Amazon has made a fool out of many municipalities who went deep into hock because they thought having Amazon in their town was the be all end all.

You are correct that it isn't necessarily Amazon's responsibility to provide parking. But for some reason Amazon is the only company of that size that sees no problem with the huge mess their DCs create in the surrounding area. Whose fault? The municipality, but Amazon is only going where somebody else is willing to pick up the tab., eventually they will find their mark.

i don't believe Amazon can be blamed for "any huge mess" near the d/c centers.

and the reason why is, roads.

if the city, state, county does not do thier own traffic control planning, such as "back access" roads, or widening of roads, red lights, traffic circles, etc,etc...again, why should a major company have to fuss with that, or be vilified for it?

if the local's "see" dollar signs, employment, tax dollars in both sales and wage earners, and shuck thier responsibility for traffic control, that is on them.

so then, truck stops that are much needed, and get put onto smaller properties, by your way of thinking, should NOT be allowed to be built, and then YOU have to drive further? wouldn't YOU need to plan your route better as well then..??

Amazon and ANY warehouse simply does NOT need to provide parking for anyone but thier own on the clock, paid employee's.

We are largely in agreement. Where we differ, is I believe large corporations ought to act responsibly not look for every last loophole and when things turn out a mess say "Not my problem". And in practice, most of them do. Amazon, not so much. Their DCs are a huge mess, and their driver contractors seem to be scraped from the bottom of the barrel. Half the accidents one seesin tractor trailers are Amazon contractors for some reason.

Using your logic, perhaps a large corporation that manufactures chemicals for instance decides, I'm going to move to El Salvador where environmental regulation is weak, that way I can discharge a lot of my waste chemicals into their river. And they do, and they foul up the river and destroy the marine ecosystem there, and generally proceed to create environmental catastrophe. But they followed the rules right?

    It's certainly not their problem.
