Union is not guarantee of job stability or higher wages…
Teamsters drivers at NEW GOLD removing overburden 2 years ago $20 per hours driving rock trucks!!
Lowest paid union drivers in my city finally turfed their useless union out 2 years ago after 4 decades..they were earning .40CPM or $17 per hour…and pulling 4 axle trailers of pulp down the north shore…Not all unions are the same but like any entity the executive committee usually only looking out for themselves…

    Phantom Trucker Thanks this.

Teamsters are the worst. We switched to CAW which is now part of Unifor a decade ago. We had two tier wage system where new hires would only ever get 90% of the top rate. First contract they got rid of it. Wouldn't agree to a contract with that still in it. Don't know how it was ever put in, in the first place. Was before I was hired.

The new Tier systems suck which is something they did at UPS & Labatt's. It does take years for newer drivers to reach top wages. The Union attitudes from Drivers are different oppose non unionized I've always found & especially the work ethic regarding the job culture. Since a few of my friends got their packages from GM in Oshawa back 2008 and the one more recent in 2018 & some were even offered retirement incentives of up to $150,000, I've always thought that it makes no sense for wages to reach $40/hr wages if inflation balances for a few years and Drivers do less but ask for 4% to 5% plus increase contracts.

There needs to be reason amongst good Driver paid jobs for the work being done but there is nothing wrong with trying to obtain the better paid job as a driver. However, any unionized job that pays below the current going rate of Driver pay which is around $24/hr in Ontario and probably around $0.55 cpm to $0.60 cpm for Otr can't be good.
