Neat to see how y'all get it done down under.!
Edit
Didn't see you already post the Caterpillar engine infomarkk, Pamela1990 and Isafarmboy Thank this. -
Sorry, been flat out and haven't gotten back here for a few days.
Yeah, 550 C15. 18 speed RTLO 20918 trans, will change it out for a 22918 when or if the time comes, 52/185 meritor rear end with 4.56 ratio, sits on pretty much exactly 1700rpm at 100km/h (around 60mph). Trucks in Australia are all supposed to be speed limited to 100km/h.
I'll get a picture of the combo I'm running at the moment tomorrow, similar to the fuel tanker photo from earlier, pocket road train (that's what we call them in Western Australia, it is a road train combination, but shorter (27.5m instead of 36.5m) and can go on different roads). They can go up to 99 metric tonnes with a 4 axle prime mover, with a 3 axle, I'm limited to 94.5 tonnes (around 208000lb).
Thanks for the comments too, the Argosy is a bit of a work in progress, just over 1mil km (around 621k miles) which is pretty low for a 2007 model. It was one of the last ones before they started the acert motors in Australia. Got a few little cosmetic things I still need to do to it, but the motor has been rebuilt and the power divider and first drive axle are only 3 years old (2nd drive is original 07 model). The company that had it before didn't skimp on anything. It has an autolube (central grease pod) on it, fuel cooler, transmission has an air/air cooler instead of the coolant setup on it. Heaps of room inside it with the high roof, has the double bunk setup in it too.
Over where I live in WA, as an owner operator a cab over is a lot more versatile. In the eastern states the rules are a bit different with how the different combinations are allowed to operate. Here it is all about length, some trucks up north can be up to 60m long. Single trailers can be up to 19m long without oversize permits. The longest trailers we have here are 48ft. They're not very common though, most flat top or reefer trailers are only 45ft. We do have skel trailers though as a lot of reefer containers that they send across country for food, etc are 48ft long. The trailers they use for these have a movable underrun bar on the back that can be extended out to reach the rear of a longer container.Pamela1990, Isafarmboy, Flint1 and 2 others Thank this. -
This is my now regular set of trailers. These we can load with extra mass up to 94.5t with a single steer prime mover.
This load was just over 88t gross. Lime for a gold mine. Little bit of sunrise to go with it. I put a 3rd trailer on that before the delivery too, total weight was 131.9t (290k pounds roughly).
