I was denied getting my DOT to today. I have mild neuropathy. It is not related to diabetes, my a1c is 6.1. I had a bad period when my mother passed 11 years ago, and drank heavy for about 3 years. The cause of my nueropathy is from vitamin deficiencies when I was drinking. I will 8 years sober in November. My doctor is in full support of me getting my DOT physical. So much so, he's allowed me to get all of the testing and checkups with the assumption I'll be giving up my disability check and Medicare. Because this transition is so important to my financial future, I'm willing to give all of that up. I have all feeling in my feet, legs, and other limbs. My only problem is I have a balance issue, but I can do everything except run and jump. In his opinion I am perfectly qualified to drive a truck safely. I'm actually half way through school, passed all of my tests, and also have the support of my instructors. I also have potential employment already lined up, they are well aware of my limitations. I'm planning on no touch freight, and drop and hook. But these DOT doctors seem to keep adding hurdles, that are pissing my doctor off. I need help with any suggestions, anyone has. My doctor is even willing to help with a waiver if needed. But it seems these doctors are going out side of the scope of "being able to drive a truck safely. I actually drive for a living right now. If anyone could tag China, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Can you not get any DoT certified doctor?
I haven’t had to run/jump to be certified.

I’m going to assume the DOT Doc you’re going to is contracted by either the school or your potential employer. A lot of employers require more than what’s required for a basic DOT physical. Sounds like this is the case with you.

Go to a different DOT doctor. Any Urgent Care type place does them. And, you don’t have stand on your head (although hanging upside down is under appreciated) or hop around on one leg.

Maybe @Chinatown has some thoughts on the matter.

The DOT physical is on record now, is the problem.
You probably revealed more than you really had to.
You'll have to get a passing physical.
    Maybe @Moose1958 has some ideas.

Guess I've lucked out; drank a fifth of Crown Royal almost every day for years didn't cause any health problems. Quit that bad habit though. Affects us differently I guess.

I get the feeling you are not providing all the information. How were you drawing a disability that is so easy to just give up? I am retired and I also have neuropathy that was caused by a vitamin B12 deficiency caused by some medications I was taking. I also have balance issues. With all due respect, you need to see a neurologist about this balance issue. I'm on your side, but I refuse to blow sunshine up your butt. Until you get this balance issue corrected I don't think you are fit to operate a CMV. I wish you well though.

I went to on in the CHI System here in Omaha, which my doctor is a part of. He wanted me to go there, so he could advocate for me if they had any questions. The school and their instructors are behind me 100% too. The doctor the school was using was very negative. He was talking about I could not unload trucks, and had a crazy idea of having someone follow me around for a couple of days. I have boys that own companies that will hire me. And one of my exes brothers works for a guy that has a truck sitting. Everyone I know in trucking says I'm being shafted.

No disrespect, but I have no reason to lie to you. Why in the hell would I want to sit and collect a check for $790 a month. If you do, that's your choice. Balance has nothing to do with driving a truck safely, and that's all a DOT physical is supposed to be about. The company trying to hire is the only that should be worried in you can do the job. I cut, power rake my yard, and I'm climb ladders to clean my own gutters. The only thing I can't do, is run and jump.
