FCC--Fremont Contract Carriers

Talked to James @ CB the other day about this. Trailers get new airbags, shocks and brake chambers at the 4 or 5 year mark regardless. And I've seen new air tanks on several of our older trailers during inspections so I'm guessing they get replaced on schedule too. It is NOT breakdown maintenance by any means.

When I was in orientation I think they said they keep records on failure points of different major parts and actually start planning to repair them before the anticipated failure point. Can’t be perfect on that but it makes total sense to be proactive about known issues and only adds to the smooth running here at FCC.

Kind of like the story about Disney Land/World and how they know how long certain light bulbs are good for and have a planned replacement for them before they blow… if possible.

but seems FCC runs the same. And why we have so many “older” trailers in such “great” condition… well, for older trailers that is.

To me miles are miles but I do appreciate the change of scenery too. Always gotten the change before I thought I needed to ask for it so it’s all good.

and ya, if you are out 4-6 weeks I doubt you would be stuck to within a region. Ii go home to SC once a month and visit my mom in IL once a month so it’s more an issue of meeting my hometime requests keeping me in the SE more than anything. Plus I get to stop off to see mom every now and then on top of that schedule (like this passed weekend) as they know she is on the way to our NC customers so if they give me a load heading East with extra time on it I won’t be complaining and just swing by for another visit.

and with you being in NC, you are a bit closer to our lanes than I am in SC. More than a few times I lose a half day just dropping off up north and then head 5 hours just to get home.

so you won’t hit that issue either with where you live… when you finally pull that trigger and jump into a red truck that is… which is when???

 

Coming out of California with a load of 1,420 miles going to Garland, TX.
I stop for today at a TA in Arizona and decided to leave the truck in idle until night fall.
I took a walk outside and could feel my skin Burning!

 

Maybe fry an egg or two on the hood while you're at it!?!?

 

Watch out for little red guys with horns and a pitchfork.

 

Hood? Heck just set a few on the dash and they well be hard boiled in no time.

I don't know, I want to ride this thing out with the local LTL P&D world and give it some time before I make any decisions as I haven't been here long at all. OTR was really hard on me when I first did that a few years ago too. I want to be sure that I really don't want to do this before I give it up.

I will say this - There's a lot of things that I really do miss about being OTR.

 

Sitting at the Loves in Clive, Iowa.(Des Moines). I count 19 trucks on the back row from local companies using the lot instead of doing business out of a yard of their own. I understand the guy who lives nearby in for a couple days, but there is one company that has 6 trucks here. Parking is tough enough without the cheap freight guys monopolizing the lot.
