Wasn't a rookie but bought a new pete in the 80"s and spent a hour trying to find the dimmer switch. The new signal stat had it just like the cars.

I took my test in a 1984 L-model Ford. On the pretrip test I couldn’t figure out how to make the washer fluid spray.

Then there was my first trip to NY on the BQE. Needless to say I freaked when I saw the sign for Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn.

Ha, I did the same thing. Saw the sign no trucks over 12' and panicked, got off at Atlantic Ave and got back on going West. All the way to Staten Island, into NJ up the turnpike, across the GW and down the Throgs Neck to the LIE.

Needless to say that was a long day and I was glad I don't have to pay for Tolls. Talked to another driver the next day and he told me the deal and got a good laugh out of it!

In my days as truck driver for the county I lived at the time i came in one sweltering hot iowa morning pretty hungover too and in a foul mood after arguing with wife all night ,
Boss wants me to go check a bridge for damage ...OK....get out there and get out of the truck and the smell of death was overpowering and don't see any damage on top so down I go and that where I found the source of the smell ...a dead body.
After I hurled I went back to the truck and called 911 on the county radio ( monitored by every dept in the county ) and tell the operator what I've found, she wants to send an ambulance and after I've told her 3 times he don't need an ambulance I finally say fine send a forking ambulance along with forking barf bags ya dingbat ! .
Whole dam county heard it including my bosses boss and this wasn't my first time using blue language on the radio towards somebody who I thought was an idiot .
When I got back to the shop my boss was laughing but his boss and the county board were not laughing and I got sent home pending a disaplinary hearing in 7 days ...I almost got fired but ended up with 14 days off unpaid and couldn't use my comp time or vacation
..so on the 15th day I came back for a day and then burned off 2 weeks of vacation and another week of comp time quit and went back to trucking ...no regrets !

20 or so years ago, delivering one of my first loads, I thought I had plenty of time. Got to be 9 AM on the delivery date and I get a call from dispatch asking what happened? I say nothing, I am getting ready to go over to the warehouse for my 2:00 delivery....it was then I found out that 2:00 meant 2 AM not 2 PM....
