Is there a standard mattress size? I might just get one preemptively.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

    How did you handle that?
I’m not desperate (not implying you were), I wouldn’t deal with that too well.

If the truck is not up to some level of decent, don't accept it.
The first mistake new drivers often make is not insisting on some set standards of decency.
That applies to the truck you get assigned to, as well as the loads you are expected to run.

And no matter what, always insist on a new mattress.

Thanks for the affirmation Moose; that’s how I was feeling. I just wasn’t sure if it would be frowned upon to require some level of professionalism as the new guy.

It may be frowned upon, but so what?
If we do not set reasonable standards and limits they will abuse us and run us into the ground.
Best to set those standards and limits from day one.

Added to what has already been said, I recommend going to home depot and picking up a few containers of these.

If you're not a smoker, then it seems you're a minority in this business. Even a well cleaned truck will sweat some of the contaminates from previous smokers, but constant cleaning will improve the situation. As to why I recommend this 1, they're affordable, don't leave a slick surface, don't dry out your skin, take even hard to clean grease off your hands, and they have a nice citrus scent.

Multi purpose Lysol. I like the Lemon one. They also sell small concentrated refill bottles. Mix your own, as strong as you want. Kills all bacteria and mold. Works on grease too. I use it on everything, except the windows. I keep it handy, even use it on my hands for minor grease or dirt, along with a paper towel or wipee. Good for keeping the the steering wheel and shifter clean. Stuff cleans good, and it’s cheap. Refill bottles especially.

I gotta try those. I recently used Goo Gone, for removing duct tape residue off the plastic dash. Worked real good, It’s citrus, leaves a oily residue. Doesn’t melt the plastic though. Goof off will melt plastic.

Most companies will at least clean out/vacuum the inside and throw a new mattress in there whenever a driver turns the truck in.

Sometimes, a new driver will be asked to recover an abandoned truck.. that is when a driver quits but doesn’t return the truck to the company terminal. The truck is most likely sitting at some truck stop or maybe a repair shop somewhere. Then ultimately the abandoned truck becomes the new driver’s truck. These are the situations where you are more likely to find a trashed out truck.

Either way, any time you are assigned a used truck, it’s never a bad idea to bring some kind of multi purpose cleaner to spray and wipe the interior down. It’s a tight space and you just never know what type of shenanigans the last driver was up to in there.

Yes. TWIN XL. Sheets are also available in that size at any Walmart, Target, BBB etc.
