What to expect when I get my truck

Geez, which terminal? When I started at Gary terminal they had a contractor come out and detail used trucks before putting someone else in them.

Then again, the safety guy at that terminal would not have been above a practical joke along those lines. One time I told him I needed loadlocks, he says "go grab some off that truck there" which I proceed to do, only to discover that the driver who was inside the truck doesn't take none too kindly to folk heisting his gear.

Turned out they had hundreds of brand new loadlocks in the garage a few feet away, and everyone knew it except me, and yeah, he knew there was a dude in that truck too.

 

I was at the layton terminal about a decade ago when they had that revolving door of new guys. And i think i met the gary guy. He did something along the same lines to me.

I needed to move a trailer someone had dropped in a weird way and pinned in the reefer i was supposed to grab. He told me to go get the one "empty" bobtail on the lot and move it. Turns out there was a dude sleeping in it who chased me out of it with a crowbar while half nude. Then proceded to chase me half way across the parking lot while the safety guy was on the floor laughing.

Me and that driver actully became good friends afterwards.

 

That kind of "joke" would make me quit faster than being assigned a nasty truck. Especially by office personnel.

 

Slow down, don't go buying mattresses yet. Sure we would all like brand new everything but the reality is that it won't be. Don't put too much into anyone saying they wouldn't accept a truck with a used mattress. They would have a hard time convincing me they have never spent a night in a hotel or that they demanded the front desk put a new mattress and sheets on the bed first.

Get the truck first then determine if what you will need. Mattress covers and toppers are readily available and are much cheaper (and easier to deal with). Than a new mattress.

 

You assume they get cleaned. Also, depending on the truck you have getting a mattress in that isn't built for a truck is no easy feat sometimes.

 

We fired that driver, twice.

 

No means No the very first time. These companies expect a certain level of performance and you should too.
