    Good day everyone!
I am currently a company driver,I would like to become an O/O.If you are experienced flatbed tracker,Please give me some suggestions for How to choose equipment. thank you!

I have two options for tractor
    1. cummins x15 565hp 18sp manual Volvo 740
with 16k front axle and 46k rears
    diff ratio 3.91
    2. 455hp Volvo 760,Previously for dryvan use

Personally I prefer the first one,but my company concerned about the weight and MPG.
How do you think? Our load is 45-49k mainly.
For the first one, how can I choose the trailer?
    1. 48 or 53ft curtain slide
    2. 53ft Tri-axle

We are currently running Canada US,but 3axle flatbed trailers are not so popular in US.
And,Because the first tractor is heavy type,Probably good for SuperB,But I don‘t have any experience with that. Thank you for your advice!

Yeah that first one is a heavy spec’d truck. It’s not ideal If you’re doing long haul and mostly pulling tandem weights. Driven properly, you might do alright with it.
You hardly have any details for your number two truck, so it’s hard to make any comment on it.

By the sounds of it, you’re typically under 80,000 pounds. So a tandem axle 53 foot trailer would be appropriate.

Going with a tri-axle trailer makes no sense. It’s more than what you need again. If it’s not a lift axle, you’ve got that extra drag working against your MPG. Plus the weight of that third axle might even lower your payload abilities. (If down in the States where they don’t recognize it).

Conestogas / roll tites / curtain side trailers are nice and save you time and effort tarping but you will give up some fuel economy with them. Like any other business decision, if the numbers make sense, there’s your answer.

First truck would be a great setup for a s b train . u said u never done it before . u interested ? I see em running all over thr pnw in the states . and obviously canada..... The problem with a heavy spec truck like that just pulling regular flatbed freight is that u lower the amount of freight u could haul.... I can haul 47k but find myself being turned down by places or getting my rate cut because they want 48k to 50k.... If u had a b train u wouldnt have to worry , plus u already got a nicely specd heavy truck for that application... Just something to think about
