Barr-Nunn is horrible, LOTS of sitting ( downtime ) and their layover pay is $50 for 34 hrs. between loads, what a joke !! You get $50 for every 24 hr period after the first 34 hr wait. I sat for 4.5 days one time, and they couldn't get me a load on I-95 !! They don't have enough freight for the number of trucks and drivers they have. If you sit for 30-33 hrs. and then they get you a load, you get $0 layover , has to be 34 hrs waiting ! If you have a load and it doesn't deliver for a day or two, you get no layover pay or any other kind of pay for the waiting because layover pay is only given for when you are between loads ! They won't buy APU's, Barr-Nunn is very cheap, and they don't want you to idle your truck to stay warm or cool ! They get all over you if you idle their truck and "waste " their fuel ! That fuel is much more important to them than the Drivers health is ! No idling allowed or you will be counseled, warned, and then fired if you don't stop idling. Same procedure on hard brakes too, they call you right after one occurs and interogate you and want to know why . During most months they won't let you wash their truck, because that costs them $$ and $$ is their only concern. They have 3 terminals in the entire nation and the 2 in the east are locked after 4:30 PM and closed on weekends. They won't even rent a "Portapotty" for their drivers at these terminals for nights and weekends !! They have mainly expedited freight with no wiggle room for any stops along the way and if you are late for any reason, even if beyond your control, you are interrogated, warned, and fired. I was just fired after giving them over 2 years of my life and staying out on the road for up to 10 wks. at a time without going home! I was fired after a late delivery due to an illness and a flat tire on the truck ! You give them several hours of notice, even before leaving the shipper, that there's a problem and a probable late delivery coming, and they say it still isn't enough notice for them !! They don't appreciate anything you do or any favor or trailer shuttle you do for them. They always want you to do UNPAID inventory yard checks at shippers and receivers so that they will know which of their trailers are there as well as if they are loaded or empty as they have no idea where their trailers are ! They want to hire new drivers who make less $$ than the drivers who have been with them for awhile and get rid of their experienced drivers who make more $$ than the newbies , again they are CHEAP !! They dont value experience. They have dispatchers who have no respect for Drivers, treat their Drivers like crap, and these Dispatchers continue to work there after multiple complaints from several drivers. Low miles, lots of waiting, short runs, always get you home late for hometime, and many times you can't leave out of the house to go back to work when you want, your hometime is extended for several days because they have no freight ! They brag about "band pay ", more pay per mile on runs less than 550 miles, but you don't get it if they "split " the load. They split loads out a lot to avoid paying the band pay and to keep the load moving, one driver hands the trailer and load to another driver, and neither Driver receives the extra band pay ! You must drive and follow the routes they mandate to you and they put you on secondary roads that are a lot further ,take more time, and are more dangerous, just to avoid tolls ! You will be punished if you don't follow the routes. They give you one fuel stop on long runs and you must get fuel at the mandated fuel stop or they are mad as hell ! You don't get paid for the extra miles driven to avoid tolls for them! I made a bad mistake working for Barr-Nunn, I definitely would not go and work for them !! It got worse the longer I was there .

To add another item, all their keys for the Barr-Nunn Freightliners are like Master keys, 1 key fits every truck !! This is another example of how little they care about their Drivers safety. Anybody with a key can get in while a Driver sleeps ! It's a wonder more trucks aren't broken into or stolen when one key fits every truck. I think this shows how stupid and uncaring they really are ! Drivers aren't safe sleeping in the Barr-Nunn trucks !
trkdrvrs get screwed over Thanks this. -

Even with all that said,And another ex-Driver saying the same. I bet 100.00 dollars, The phones are ringing off the hook.. Why cant new drivers read before calling?

Just knowing they only have 1 key would prompt me into buyng a 12' motorcycle strap from WalMart and putting it across the doors to keep them shut. This is also a good bugular alarm and keeps anyone out of the truck and gives you enough time to get the tire thumper out as the only way they can get into the truck is through the window,
OOPS, sorry officer if I knocked the moron out and pushed his arse back out the window and he bounced off the steps on the way down!Richard Scribner Thanks this. -
Those straps are Great, always use them on doors. Many companies are keyed alike !! Barr-Nunn runs ads in Florida constantly. What does that tell ya ???
Richard Scribner Thanks this. -
Please, what do you mean by a "12' motorcycle strap"??? TY
Richard Scribner Thanks this. -
WOW one key fits all their trucks ! Talk about cheap, if that's the case.Richard Scribner and trkdrvrs get screwed over Thank this. -
