Companies are so desperate they know they’re gonna get crap out of some of these newer drivers, but they hire them anyhow. These types of guys will usually last 6 to 9 months, pull in about a grand a week which they think is a fortune and then they end up telling their friends and they join on too. They’re not real truckers. Just trying to make some cash so they get a new car loan. They last 6-9 months before they mess something up and get fired or they’re so lazy and late for everything that the company has no choice but to let them go. But no worries, recruiting has a whole new fresh batch coming in the following week.

trucking as a whole really needs to look at recruiting. They’re the ones that can change this industry. I have nothing against new drivers, I was one four years ago. It’s the attitude that separates them!

Being punctual, and taking pride in the job. Owning up to mistakes. Always striving to learn something new each day.

Following through with what you say.

Edit, Park with your wheels straight! A pet peeve of mine when people park with the wheel turned.

dress neatly, as in no ripped jeans, dirty clothing, profanity on T-shirts, stay well groom, use mouthwash, speak in easy to understand ENGLISH, use no profanity at any time, DO NOT wear flip-flops, do not spread rumors of your company, or other company's, take showers on a regular basis, keep the inside and outside of your truck as clean and odor free as possible,

do you pre-trips with vigilance and due diligence, DO NOT drive if any safety issue NEEDS to be fix before you leave, show respect to all you have any contact with

and most importantly, eat more ice cream, from a cup, as cones leak all over your freshly laundered jeans and shirts.

Learn how to use that sleeper window to blind side and you're well on your way to becoming an unstoppable force. Not everyone knows that trick. I've had a couple guys ask me if I had a backup camera.

When close calls, near misses happen and they will don’t dwell on the what if’s.

Retain a sense of humor, it will help get you through the dumb ####. It’s easier to laugh than to swell up over a situation you can’t change. Not saying there isn’t a time to be serious, just pick your battles. Decide if it’s really worth it.

It's okay to be a hater! Take me, for example... a smiling, happy, go-gettin' pitcher of cherry Kool-Aid®. But beneath that pleasant façade lurk my true impressions about people. They're not "pretty."
