You're going to pay the same into IFTA either way, put fuel on when you need it and don't worry about the IFTA.

Never said that toll roads have anything to do with ifta but not only we have to pay expensive tolls on PA turnpike but we have to pay high PA ifta taxes on top of that. States that have expensive toll highways should have lower ifta taxes in my opinion.
Tolls are going up on the PA Turnpike for the 14th year in a row

I believe NJ is now .47 fuel tax, and PA is .74, so if you run a lot of miles there and don't buybany fuel there, it will be painful at the end of the quarter....

Wow!! It’s been a while since I actually looked at the rates for each State. Last I remember PA was .34

I agree but that isn't the way things are and you will pay fuel tax there anyway...for the cash strapped I'd just stay out of southeast penn or go around the patp witch is painful.
With a paid off truck I need tax write-offs and I run some of it .

My millstone is NY. PA is only about 1/4th as much -or- less and 90% is still in NJ so we will still do OK and I have a few hundred in credits, PA must have just gone up.

BTW they announced tonight the PA Turnpike is going up again 14th year in a row....

Fuel when you need it and at the best price you can, settle up at the end, there are outliers as some here have said, but it will come out in the end or up front, for a single truck or even up to 3ish, it just wont matter, the bill is very unlikely to be unaffordable. (If even 1500 is hard to eat, its likely that you shouldnt be trucking, youre 2 tire blowouts from bankruptcy)

As far as larger fleets go, when everyone fuels where they want, the averages of miles and fuel purchased start to smooth things down.

We have a lot under construction but a lot more that need it. Just a few years ago I thought PA was doing well with paving but it seems to have slowed down drastically. Ohio is way worse IMO. Even their toll roads are awful. The PA turnpike (76) to York is pretty dang good. The widening around Somerset is annoying.
