Free lumber is the best. Just careful supporting anything on cheap soft pine. Short 2x4 to drive up on a hard piece of 4x4 is a better idea.
A very bad idea? (Using trailer landing gear to jack up drive wheels)

Won't work. By lifting the fifth wheel you will have to lift the fifth wheel/truck frame
till the air bags are at full stretch before the truck axle starts to come up. You will have to
lift the frame maybe 12 inches.....or more till the wheels clear the ground. By putting a
jack directly under the truck axle you only have to lift several inches till the wheels clear
the ground.
If you want to be a do-it-yourself truckdriver just buy the bottle jack. You will use it a lot
over the years.PermanentTourist Thanks this. -

I don't think you will get the drive wheels off of the ground because the suspension will just drop the wheels. Trailer landing gear isn't going to be able to extend far enough to accomplish your goal.
