Can you shift a medium duty box truck (20,000gvwr to 33,000gvwr) with only using the clutch for shifting from neutral to first and for stopping/braking? I've never driven a box truck so idk and that's the reason I ask this question, and any truthful answers are appreciated, thank you

Box trucks typically have a Eaton synchro six. They are synchronized so technically you are supposed to shift it like a car with one push of the clutch. Those transmissions are junk and the synchros are usually wore out so people float them anyhow. So to answer your question, yes you can shift without the clutch. It’s probably wore out anyhow

Can't find em', grind em',,,to shift a synchro trans like straight gears does more harm than good. Just shift it like a car, let them worry about the clutch.

They're "not bad" to drive. Like the other fellow said, more than likely slightly " out of adjustment and hashed out.I drove one a few times 25,999gvw. I preferred to float by R P M and sound.

I use to do it all day long in city traffic. Never tore one up.

My cousin drives a dump truck in Kansas City. They have around 80 trucks and they're all automatics
