Anyone know of any Reefer lanes?

    I've heard Reefers can make pretty good money nowadays, is that just because of the season or is it good all year round? I'm trying to expand my business and hire some drivers and buy some trailers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    What do you mean by that? I'm in Denver and we're pretty close to Wyoming, what's the deal with being a border city?

    I think he was referimg to the border with Mexico... Lots of produce.

    Then theres apples out of washington, potatoes out of Idaho, citrus out of California, corn outbof Iowa,.... The list goes on. Find a area that produces large amounts of produce and you go anywhere in the US you want... Its getting back that can be interesting.

    I haul from Idaho to the entire Midwest. ALWAYS potatoes going east, mostly dry loads coming back west... Everything from scrap metal to hard liquor.

    Not a whole lot of difference in potatoes and liquor except packaging from a certain perspective :p

    lots of refeer there.lol but really theres all kinds of import produce or what knots coming from mexico. all kinds of produce in northern cali on 101

    Rates out of Denver are not the best! When delivering in that area, I look for loads out of Kansas, Nebraska or Pueblo and dead head 2-3 hundred miles for beef from Cargill, National Beef or Tyson that’s headed East!

    I don’t like wasting my time with beer out of Fort Collins it doesn’t pay enough & is heavy.

    But you question was can refer make pretty good money, & the answer is yes. But like any thing you have to know the lanes & seasons for the product. I see other responses regarding produce from the southern border, that’s not year round. Citrus and Apples use to be seasonal but are becoming year round. When produce from the border starts, it creates rate hikes between produce growers and citrus haulers so good money usally over $2.80 a mile pre pandemic and now $3.50-$5.00 a mile post pandemic, I’m sure eventually rates will fall agin.

    i haul meat to Washington from Kansas pretty regular for about $5800-$6000 a load, then apples back East for $8-9k. But during cherry season you can add about 1k to that. Also there is a small window for fish from Alaska out of WA headed East and you can see rates into NW states from 10k-12k but have to have 1mil insurance for them loads.

    a good lane for you maybe Colorado to California for 2-3k then California to Wa usally 4-5k from Wa go East towards Midwest 5-6K and then find a load back towards Denver for 4-4K

    There is so much to learn with refer routs it takes a few years working with brokers to learn it all, right now while the spot market is hot I’d try it, then look for dedicated runs after a few years.
