This is why we all have to wait until the truth comes out. Turns out he was not at fault, but maybe seeing two vans in the median should have alerted him to a potential disaster in the making.

Good for the Trucker. You know what they say. Daytime, Clear Sky, warm temp, and dry pavement..... How can you have a WRECK like this? There has to be a heart attack, a stroke, etc, driver went to sleep, or a completely STUPID driving maneuver.

What really sucks is even if the driver is found 110% innocent in this, his career is pretty much gone. No company will touch him now, due to insurance being astronomical for him. And it will take a number of years for something like this to drop off his record.

I just hope the driver was already looking at retirement and that they can get all the psychological help they need in order to cope with this tragedy.

And for those of you who believe the truck driver has some sort of responsibility in this, you do not truly know 100% what actually happened. It is quite possible that the truck driver may have been in the right hand lane and could not change lanes and/or slow down enough to mitigate damage and deaths. We would have to see the dash cam footage to get a much better idea of what happened, which I'm sure won't be released until the investigation is complete.

At the time it was written those were the facts. They still are, but now we know that is was not his fault.

I think we have all seen some idiots trying to turn around on the interstate, but we assume they will not pull out in front of traffic until it is clear. I guess she felt entitled to go ahead and make the move, along with the other van.

A tragedy for sure, now the ambulance and hearse chasers will appear to sue the driver or his estate civilly, which will most likely take any accrued wealth. When I was driving, this was one of my greatest fears. Surviving a wreck, only to be bankrupted into poverty by a civil or criminal lawsuit filed against me, the driver. Something to contemplate that I've NEVER heard mentioned at any company orientations.

Considering all of the responsibility the job entails, I find it hard to do it for a lousy 44 cents per mile.

Sounded fishy right from the start. A truck simply can not split in half a car travelling at (or close to) highway speed in the same direction. Either the car was stopped or moving at a speed significantly under the limit. Or else the truck managed to exceed triple digits.

I was in a safety browbeating one day with a company that really sucked. They knew it all, but not one had ever driven a truck before. Finally, after proving them incorrect about a supposed violation, I asked my DM, do you feel safe sitting behind that computer screen every day? He said, well I suppose so. I said well I sit behind a steering wheel with 75,000 pounds around me, and deal with 100s of other trucks the same way, and then the mass of four wheelers. I never know from day to day if I will make it home alive. You should consider that before you decide to explain to me about trucking.

On Thursday, July 8, 35 year old Iyona Holton was arrested and booked into the booked into the Maricopa County Jail on multiple charges, including four counts of Aggravated Assault, one count of Possession of Dangerous Drugs, and one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, according to a news release from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The charges were issued as a result of a fiery three vehicle crash that occurred on July 2 on I-10 near Tonopah.

According to Arizona DPS, “Investigators determined the two passenger vehicles, a GMC Envoy and a Nissan Altima, were initially traveling westbound on I-10. Both vehicles drove into and through the dirt median, a marked “No U-Turn” zone, in order to turn around and travel eastbound on I-10. As the GMC and Nissan vehicles entered the eastbound travel lanes, they were struck by a commercial tractor-trailer.”

The force of the crash “split the Nissan passenger vehicle in half,” Arizona DPS said.
