Have a question about hauling crushed cars

Heavy,ugly,pain in the rear.one punctured tire and you hauled the load for free.

 

Junkyards are notorious for flat tires. Oil on your deck & parts/ glass. Not a good backhaul.

 

I hauled a few loads of crushed cars. Picked a load up in Newfoundland, around St. John's one evening, put a net and some chains on the load , got it secured. Everything was going well, drove about 30 miles and wanted to check things out. Went into an abandon parking lot, was almost dark by this time. One of my chains was loose, was in the process of tightening things up when one of the biggest Rats I ever seen came running out of one of the cars, about a foot away from me and jumped off the trailer onto the ground. Never hauled a load of crushed cars since that time. That was an ugly experience for me. Other than that experience everything else went alright. Point is trucking crushed cars? Be ready for the unexpected!!!!!!!. Good luck.

 

I hauled a lot of crushed cars back to the pipe plant in B/ham al. If you got the loader to push down on the top of each stack before you started to buck down each of the 4 chains on each of the 3 stacks, the next day you had to have a extra binder to get the chain off because when you pop it off it had no slack in it till you used the extra to get slack it chain 2 or more times, but you had no trouble with lose chains on the 250 mi. trip, it payed by the hundred weight so loading heavy was the deal and saying off the big road so you could use the 88,000 tag you had on your truck?

 

To add to all the things mentioned above.....they will turn you over quicker than anything you ever put on a flat bed.

 

The only answer is NO.

I’ve never pulled them and I’m relatively new to open deck. Guy I run for will deadhead me out of CT/MA to Ohio rather than pull crushed cars. We have good rates going in so it’s all good for me(W-2 company driver) and he’ll make it right for me in terms of pay. He says they’re rough on the deck in addition to the points mentioned above.
