In the absence of an auxiliary power unit that cools and makes electricity, you will need to idle the main engine and run the truck A/C. If you company will not let you idle, find a different company. Period.

The freightliner electric APU will cool the sleeper good, mine works good. The draw back of the system is the thermostat is in the sleeper. You need the front dash fan going to keep front of cab cool in the summer. The only way for that to happen is turning on Interior Comfort Mode. You still have the problem of thermostat in sleeper control the temperature and that tells the computer to start the engine. You basically have to turn the sleeper thermostat cooler then you might like if parked in sun in summer. It will say on dash when engine is running for Interior Comfort Mode. It's not a perfect system IMG_20210711_104833604.jpg

Leave key in run position, push cruise set/pull red button on throttle lock and bump to ~900 rpm, turn on engine fan and AC….

Reminds me of stories about Schneider Drivers freezing, buying fuel to make their bonus. All sorts of angles. Meanwhile Donnie Schneider’s big house on the lake has every light on all night long. Lol.

I was there for a year and got 1 fuel bonus and the one I worked so hard to get I got screwed out of, you know how the bonus was up to four cpm. Well I was on track for 4 cpm then they started all this jazz with the tablets that didn’t work... couldn’t get assignments or fuel solutions was literally running like I was back in the pay phone days had to run paper logs and the whole 9. Well I had my dbl document all of it and was told it’s be removed from when I started having issues..pretty much my score went from a 5 to a 3... lol that lesson learned me that my truck shall never be shut off unless I was on hometime or layed over in keasby and taking the train to nyc.. they tried to be slick and call under the guise of general concern... “hey we just wanted to check on you and see how you were doing, remember to get some rest and to get out and walk every so often, oh and shutting off the truck... “we wouldn’t want you to miss out on that safety bonus”... I was in bulk so it got to the point where I ain’t go in the terminal until after 5pm because I wasn’t shaving or shutting off my truck and them being generally concerned when I called because I wouldn’t pickup and they only heard from me if a load number was screwed

I'm of the opinion that if a company doesn't care enough to give a driver basic modern comfort then they are not worth working for.
I drove a year in a day cab with no AC. I liked the truck. My choice so I didn't complain.
OTR is different. Poor sleep equals poor driving. Why work for those who don't care about your safety.
