Type 2 is all based on lifestyle choices. You get fat and don't eat right. You get it. You eat right and lose weight. You cure it.

Good for him. Type II is usually the result of poor lifestyle choices, but not Type I. He's on the right track to living longer if he keeps doing what he's been doing.

 

Your comment confuses me a bit. I know of no type 1 diabetic that can go without injecting insulin. In type 1 diabetes the pancreas can not make enough insulin. You can't control type 1 with just diet. There is a process in the human body called "Gluconeogenesis" that transforms protein into glucose and the body will require insulin to handle that glucose. In type 1 diabetes there is little to no natural insulin. Look, I'm not a Physician, and to be honest, diabetes is such a misunderstood disease I would not be surprised at anything. If you are correct it will be the first time in my entire 63 years hearing about a type 1 diabetic that controls strictly by diet. I have known many diabetes of both types.

 

Yes, The person that helps me with my diabetes told me that with most type 1 diabetics sometime during their early years their immune system attacks the Islets of Langerhans in the Pancreas and destroys their ability to produce insulin. I am a type 2 diabetic "officially" but I am forced to use insulin because my Pancreas will no longer produce insulin with the pills. I will never forget the day my "doc" told me I was going to have to start taking insulin. I had lost close to 50 pounds off my body weight when I was driving. Thought I had my blood sugar under control with the pills and diet. Then I did labs and my A1C was over 13. I went back to the labs to have some more testing done and when the results came back my "doc" said I had to start taking both Lantus and Novolog. This was several years ago. Diabetes sucks canal water!!!!!

 

I really don't think truck stops are going to be changing to all you can eat hummus, and tofu buffets any time soon

I have been over 300 pounds for decades and doctors ALWAYS assumed i have diabetes and high blood pressure but year after year decade after decade they just can't find any.

Nearing retirement now, take ZERO meds and can still throw iron with the best of them

 

Being obese does NOT cause diabetes! That is a fact! It also does NOT cause high blood pressure! I also know several people that are a bit heavy and do not have diabetes or high blood pressure. I congratulate you on being in that group. Physicians do have a tendency to think this way. I hope you have a long retirement. I would recommend however you get your A1C checked at least once a year!
