I'm surprised I didn't. It's ok to have a different opinion, but you can't have different facts!

Nope just 2 gel batteries which come as standard now in Volvo.

You can get 4, (2 for starting + 2 for acc) but not with baby axle.

Scania and Daf (i think MB too but not shure) do not make a big axle pusher.
    Reason is safety.
Short wheelbase combined with a non steer big axle pusher gives you a truck that will not make turns.
Add a wet roadsurface and you are f******.

So why is it a problem with a big axle and not with a baby?
maybe @98989 will explain it better then me ?
Basicly with a big non steer pusher you take to much weight from the drive and steer axle which combined with that same axle only wanting to go in a straight line (multiplied with the short wheelbase) gives you a dangerous truck.

Guess which brand is pushing this setup as hard as they can?
    Yup...........Volvo.
When a compagny asks for a twin steer they will first push you to forget that second steer and get a non steer pusher.
If you stick to your guns to get a twinsteer, they will reluctendly sell it but they will screw you anyway.
They will program the truck so the second steer will not steer above 40k/h (25mph).
They will program the truck so the second steer will lower far to soon and lift very late.
If you change any off the settings regarding that second steer (when it blocks or when it lifts)................they void your warranty.

I know drivers that have had accidents because off Volvo's attitude too the above.
Thankfully they were fenderbenders (sliding sideways into a jersey barrier)

Oxbow, nevesu and spsauerland Thank this.

scania make it for like last 12years, it was forced by UK, if i remember right 175kg weight savings.
they also offered around 2012 hendrickson mla2 axle, back then it was 4x2, 3.9m wb conversion.
in new gen they make baby axle from normal 6x2/2, they move it 200mm back and offer 3wb
yes this is basically a problem, ratio between weight on drive vs push axle and surface of tires makes baby much safer.
even if wb is same (baby vs normal) this push center of gravity more forward to front axle. so my choice is def. baby.

i have no idea why outside of scandinavia no one wants tag axle, give way more benefits.

mb make it since actros4 it goes down (both on baby and normal) when weight on drive axle is 9t and dont go up until weight is under 7.3t.
normal steered axle is not liftable, there is no space for airbag. you can get custom solution from factory using shock absorbers as a lifting device with same parameters. you can block steering if you want (for example when driving on uneven terrain). we never had any with big fix axle, this is simply against my view.

Short wb - ####ty ride, and problems with height when last axle is lifted (you exceed 4 meters).

I also think that most scandinavian trailers have legs moved closer to trailer wheels, in order to make space for longer frame.

    Like @nevesu said....height.

You can run a EU trailer with a tag but.............

smaller tires in the drive and the tag
made to order trailer as it needs a longer neck so ..............$$$$

ps Scandanavia has different height laws to the rest off the EU.

yes it is not comfortable as with twin steer.
i notice problems with clearance between 3rd axle and trailer neck, 315/60 or 275/70 are quite welcome on tag.

for legs, yes, many eu trailers actually dont respect iso1726 although they are marked as compatibile, probably because they are too soft.
scania and volvo has right wb for 16.5m total. mb and man not. i dont know for rest.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

neck not, just it is often problem with trailer leg position. i notice some 6x2 tag axle tractors have modified tail light position and often compact aftermarket mudguards to save space. also most of them come with sliding 5th wheel

    Oxbow Thanks this.
