Just watch the driver of the truck get sued in civil court for this, something to think about. If you have anything to take, a judgment against you will take it.

The only thing missing that I see maybe a peek of hope for a sharky lawyer golddigger type. Did the driver have his 4ways on, did he have his triangles out. I just don't know. Folks everything is upside down now in North America. Wrong has the upper hand now. If you need to pull over into the emergency lane for ANYTHING other than a quick PP, 4 ways on, triangles standing. Looks like a countryside ramp, got the open fields there. The couple might have a record of terrible driving, speeding, previous crashes, wrecks, may they were divorcing or seperating.... one seeing a mental counselor. I just don't have enough information. I feel for the driver though. You can't park anywhere near a ramp it seems. You are asking for a 4 wheeler to kill themselves at the back of your trailer.

This is another reason why the double hauler mega's are doing so well. They want drivers to handle over the road shipments in segment runs that way NO PARKING unless it Brokedown. Drivers work their segments, to and fro, switch truck and trailers in the full island, along with bills, paperwork, company mail, coffee up, take a dump, 30 minute break.... see ya. Back home off on the weekends. New guys work weekends, and work around the crossdock the other 3 weekdays that they work. Long haul over the road is on piggyback cars on freight trains. NO parking on RAMPS. I disagree with this, but you can see how the fed ex's, ups, old d, r&l, yrc, everyone of these happenings, help them grow, stock price rise. Except for Refrigerated. That would be the end of owner operators just jumping in. You would have to work for a REAL, mom and pop company then to get any freight. Again, that hasn't happened yet, but people running into parked big rigs like this continues....

The only reason you should be on the shoulder is a medical or mechanical issue. Otherwise proper trip planning. That truck should have never been there. Period.

I have often thought if they would only take note where a cluster of trucks are parked on 10 HR Breaks, night after night, and build Truck Parking there things would improve for EVERYONE. Oh and also... put some outdoor toilets, trash cans, then you will not have a urine and poop roadside disaster area.

Regardless, there is no excuse for hitting a stopped vehicle that is not in a travel lane.

In the past the car driver would be charged with “driving with undue care and attention “, assuming they survived.
It’s the motorists responsibility not to drive into obstacles.

Please, don't encourage the idea that it's OK to park on the shoulder to take a leak. It isn't.

I had in mind the Prime drivers (yes, it has always been Prime drivers) parking on the shoulder (not on a ramp) on I-80 in Wyoming and peeing between their truck and trailer. Don't even have the decency to go to the blind side of the truck so you can't see them.

I've seen this four times in the last six months. I guess they've standardized their training.
