He better hope he was on route, wonder about high pole?
Best to have the driver of the high pole car stay in, the set the pole, if the driver of car weighs 250+ pounds, the suspension of the car will go down, lowering the pole a bit, not much, but sometimes an inch, though it looks more like at least a foot.

 

I'm in New England and local news is saying it's a cluster that will have months of ripple effect. It also said the clearance was 14'5" so it wasn't especially low.

As far as a question from a guy looking to break into the industry via flatbed...I know different states have different oversize requirements, but shouldn't they have been closely planning the route to avoid something like this?

 

As I just done a high load to Massachusetts, if bridge strike happened shortly before 4 like article states, he’s got another problem as curfew is 330-7 everywhere in Massachusetts. Maybe he had a high pole, maybe he was on route. But at that height, he should’ve had a route survey. Things happen sometimes even when you do follow the route.....

 

Oversize loads like that are usually given a specific route to follow by the state when they get their trip permit

As for what happened Monday afternoon with the truck and it’s cargo, described as possibly being an industrial tank or grain tower, Gulliver said they’re not sure yet.

“I can tell you that it had to pass under a number of other bridges that were of the same height so we’re not sure if that load loosened up at some point,” he told WBZ.

Massachusetts State Police said the truck was a 2013 Peterbilt 367 owned by Dove Transportation of Lincoln, Alabama.

The driver, a 57-year-old man from Alabama, was not hurt. His passenger, a 54-year-old woman from Alabama, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with “possible minor injuries,” police said.

 

Makes me wonder if the bridge was where it should be or if there was structure decay that let it sag...
