    Hi there,
I am a new truck driver and ready needs some help. So last month I started working at McConnell transport,NB and they were not giving me miles as most of the time i sit in truck idealy. So I inform them about leaving the job and parked the truck where I’m supposed to after my last route and now they sent me a bill of around $1100 , Plus No pay of 1 week and give me 20 days time to pay back. They did mentioned in contract that they will charge $2.95 per mile to their location if I failed to return vehicle which I forgot and they also didn’t inform me, but the total miles are only 182 which makes dues around $536 . And they charged double and no pay. Please give me some suggestions what to do as they are not replying my email. Thank you

    Hi there,
No , it wasn’t lease purchase. I ddi complete my last trip as a driver and supposed to park the truck in my city, but as I quit then I suppose to retun that to their main office which I didn’t know but I informed them that the truck is parked in my city yard.

I wouldn’t pay them anything, keep documents, make them take you to court.
Take the truck to a terminal, they can’t fine you if you do that much.

As per Contract: “if the Employee fails to return Company vehicle to Jacksonville, the company will charge at the Employer’s reasonable expense’ to return the vehicle to Jacksonville, NB and other reasonable expenses occasioned by leaving the vehicle other than Jacksonville, NB for cost of storage, safety, etc.’ This is what they said. I understand that I left the truck to local yard but they are charging for double distance plus not giving me the details of my last pay as they supposed to deduct from my pay.

Drive it back to Jacksonville and drop it off. That is what you agreed to do. Do not go to work for another fly by night company.

You keep saying you parked it where you are supposed to, did you asked them where to park the truck when you told them you are terminating your employment?

    You ask, always ask.

I swear, people have such problems in the trucking industry, this situation surely wasn't mentioned in the brochure. Compared to today, my and many others entry into the trucking world was a joke. You walked in, filled out a 3x5 index card with some phone numbers, and we were trucking that afternoon. While I've been called "crusty", today's word for experienced,, but some things don't change, and if you are that unhappy, return the truck, clean it out, pay your dues, and break clean. Years ago, you could get away with telling the boss they were "#1", and no big deal. Today, that will follow you to the ends of the earth. Nobody likes to eat crow, ( Lord knows, I ate plenty with my own truck) but you gave it a shot, and it didn't work. You have to pay a price for that, like it or not. Another bit of advice that never goes out, talk to the other drivers BEFORE committing. This will be an expensive lesson, sorry. Best of luck.
