You have 3-6 months. Start working out. Get that otr fat off. Pump it up baby. Be used to long hours at first, you go home but most local drivers have other duties you don't know about yet, and those duties are time consuming, but like you said, you are home everynight. Good day.

How much total experience will you have when you leave your current company?

 

there are every major LTL company in the Charlotte area. up near Sunset Rd.

Holland, XPO Logistics, Central Freight;7500 Statesville rd. ,Old Dominion, ect,ect.

If you could shift a truck I would recommend my old company. Total Distribution.

I think they do out and back now only.

no automatics.

If you have tanker and Haz-Mat, there a ton of fuel companies ,also.

Keep in mind depending on the company local and home every day doesn't always mean you will have free time to do other things those days. I went from regional to local and now run 10-12 hour days. Basically just working eating and sleeping on work days. I also only have 2-3 stops and run about 560 miles every day, so not much sitting besides the 30 min "break" we can now be on duty for which equates to swapping trailers and sitting for about 10 minutes of the 30.

 

I’d apply at all the LTL’s. Go get your doubles endorsement and Hazmat. There’s no need in this economy to wait the year. They’re desperate pulling people off the dock to get their CDL’s. Apply to all and see which one calls you back. Saia, Estes, Old dominion, XPO, R&L, ABF, Dayton, Yellow TForce Central etc.. You don’t have to have the hazmat endorsement right away they’ll give you a time frame to get them. Doubles I’d try to get right away. It’s super easy written test. Never hurt to try.

 

You don’t have the hang of it if you’ve only been driving a week.

and you should get your double and haz mat and figure out a way to get rid of the slush box restriction so you can drive any truck .
And I’d stay for at least Six months , you got a lot you can learn .
