Direct drive requires 3600 rpm or expensive 4 poles generator. With timing belt you can use lower rpm and avoid slipping and squealing.

My direct drive with 3 cylinder Kubota runs at 1800, has brushless 8k generator, and is very quite. Doesn’t sound like a lawnmower.

Gen is good but will not fit on my truck. Usually frame space for APU is about 24 inches. I have only 22 inches so to fit it designed my own genset.

Mine is somewhat hillbilly, but only cost $1500 or so to build. It runs on about $5 a day in gas. And no huge hole in the cab.

Put a headache rack on and none of those setups work at all unless youve got a tall tall cab and dont mind tripping on the generator on the catwalk (snails generator is a good compromise with the space, but the full outside condenser from a mini split is still too tall to not go over the top of the back of the cab with headache rack, beleive me, i TRIED to find a shorter one)

The new Honda I replaced the Predator with, is much smaller. I could easily hang it off the frame rail if I didn't have room on the catwalk. The condenser is another matter. It needs hard lines because it runs 410a. So either your cab would have to be solid mounted or it has to be attached to the cab.

A mid-roof running flats, etc., would be able to do a roof mounted camper style though.

Defeats the purpose of the midroof somewhat, 11' 7" at stacks and beacon light

    Work in progress
