Hi there! I currently work for a mega carrier who pays through W2. I was just asked to join a smaller company, that offers better cpm and other things. However they pay through 1099. I just wanted to know the key differences and what I should do? Thank you!

Run from the company, unless you are an actual contractor.
If the very first thing they tell you is they are willing to break the law in regards to how they pay, what makes you think they care about any other law? Like hos, equipment, and even actually paying you?

I'm confused though, doesn't Walmart pay their drivers through 1099?

There are gazillions of opinions and information on this topic. Enter 1099 in the search bar. It should keep you busy for a couple of weeks! Lol

If you do not know the difference between a 1099 and a W2......stay where you are.

No. No reputable company pays on a 1099. Except when certain conditions are met, it is also illegal. Not to mention there will be no Workmans Comp if you get hurt or unemployment if you lose your job. You will also pay double Social Security, your half as the employee and the company matching half. Run.

Well here is how it is supposed to work.

    AS A 1099 person …

    you are a contracted driver.

you have a contract which defines everything about the work

you can refuse work without any retaliation

you can leave any time you want to

you are responsible for all taxes.

Now that said, 99% of the companies who have 1099 drivers are doing it illegally and what pisses people like me off (I have 1099 drivers and do it legal) is they get away with it because drivers are too willing to become slaves.

    STAY WHERE YOU ARE AT.
