Stop this crap with these cheap crap companies, go to landstar.

think about this, while there are fees and a large percentage, you will work. You won’t be at the mercy of a company that is going to try to squeeze out ever penny from you.

As a new authority it may be very expensive, more expensive than what they charge you for.
Unless they included it, you still may have to purchase your own liability bobtail insurance - that's when you travel with your truck off duty, released from any business obligations. I think I paid for mine about 2 grand the first year and it included Physical Damage.

$2 a mile is very low for majority of lanes.

Most of those who are leased on don't get to see what the lanes pay.
So he is still much better than most of the carriers who pay per mile vs %.
A leased on guy has much less expenses and more safety umbrella with logistics and cash flow. Not all of the lanes pay 4 dol per mile. Most likely when you get $4 to go 1000 miles one way then you come back for $2. That's not going to last forever either.
2 per loaded mile mile may be not that far from 3 dol per average loaded mile for a guy with own authority when all the costs are accounted for.

Do you have your own insurance on your truck or are they charging you for adding your truck to their insurance?

Idk, this thread makes my head hurt. Lots of assumptions without much information. If he’s paying $7400 a year for insurance on his truck then that’s not terrible. But the OP hasn’t said what the insurance is.
